WHY BECOME A MEMBER?
As our Purpose states, we are an organization who exists to perpetuate Scottish traditions and culture. Through member fellowship and camaraderie, we join together in promoting the Purpose by attending Highland Games and Gatherings, participate in Society events, raise funds for scholarships and whenever possible, meet at public venues to simply socialize. We like to wear the kilt! The wearing of the kilt in both our casual and formal events is highly encouraged. The Saint Andrew's Society of Sacramento tent will usually be set up at local to the Sacramento area Scottish Games and Gatherings, organized pipe, drum or dance competitions and may roam to other Celtic related events.
We are an active organization. The Home page of the website lists the annual events typically organized. We may also partner with other local Scottish organizations such as the Caledonian Club of Sacramento, the Sacramento Lodge Daughters of Scotia or Scottish American Military Society on certain events. At the least, try to coordinate around their events. Our Board of Directors meet monthly. We have standing committees who coordinate the events and other duties needed to run the organization and therefore look to the Society to volunteer for these committees. We look for member volunteers to man the tent at any event we participate.
Therefore, we look for men and women who are energetic, willing to participate, exhibit traits such as honesty, integrity, character and possess a positive attitude. Maybe equally important, be comfortable wearing your kilt in public!
